A reflection only happens when a person builds a safe relationship with the outside. All the essays put a large emphasis on oneself, listening to the inner voice; however, the relationship between oneself and the outside builds the foundation. What it means is safety.
When the outside threatens safety, one will be in a survival mode. A mode that is unable to allow one to take a full reflection. Such a threat could be physical or mental. When such a threat is reduced, when one can hold themselves, a reflection will appear.
The minimum safety is fundamental for reflection; however, it doesn’t mean without safety, without reflection. A reflection can happen everywhere and every time, but minimum safety offers an enriching resource for full reflection.
Safety can be from the outside, but it will be unstable; if it’s from the inside, it serves as a stable mental safety. Mental safety is the key; physical threats matter because they undermine it. When a person masters the methodology, they master a way to build one thing from zero by themselves, which is why the confidence comes from.
When the safety is about the present, it’s about the current relationship with inside and outside; when the safety is about the future, it’s about prediction, confidence, and hope.
